Health Terms Victoria - Outline

The development of a community of interest in terminology that provides a venue for ideas, access to mentors and support for those introducing terminological systems in Victorian healthcare.

Specific objectives of Health Terms Victoria are:

• To improve education and understanding of clinical terminologies throughout healthcare in Victoria .
• To serve as a knowledge resource on clinical terminology projects in Victoria
• To act as a coordinating body for terminology enhancement or governance issues that arise that need to be forwarded to Nehta.
• To provide a community of interest to mentor and support developments of clinical terminologies in Victoria .

 The following specific priorities were identified as potential focus for further meetings

• Knowledge and skills needed in the health community to support terminology introduction and understanding including:

• The position of terminology in today’s health care system,

• Impact upon current processes for classification

• Relevance to clinical processes (where does it fit?)

• Implementation requirements and issues

• Mapping – what is it and how does it work?

• Process for coordination of terminology governance

• Register of terminology projects to support information sharing and project knowledge distribution (initial collection tool developed and web site in preparation)

• Coordination of requests for additional terms, registration of data set developments and usage

• Liaison with health data standards
